Qualifications

We fly patrol missions in a Cessna 182 based at Woodland Watts Airport (O41).  Our membership consists of general members who are patrol qualified pilots and patrol qualified observers.  Our pilots must have at least a Private Pilot ASEL certificate and a minimum of 500 hours total time, with high performance aircraft endorsement.

You do not need to be a pilot to become a member!

Non-pilot members or pilots who don’t yet meet the minimum flight time are welcome as observers.

Meetings

Persons interested in joining the YCSAS must attend at least three meetings prior to being approved for membership.  The YCSAS meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except in December) either virtually or inperson at the Yolo County Sheriff’ s Office Cameron Training Building.

See the Events listing to the right for upcoming meeting dates.

Process

Applicants must complete an online application and submit payment for the background check and initiation fee.

Once your application and payment have been received, you will be contacted for an interview with the Executive Board.  After the interview, you will be given information to set up a LiveScan fingerprinting appointment at the sheriff’s office.  This is your background check.

Once the results are received, you will be notified if you have been accepted or not.  Once accepted, you will be given information regarding uniform purchase, getting an ID card, and setting up a patrol ride-along with a deputy.  After everything has been completed, you will be sworn in as a member of the YCSAS!

Costs

Background Check and Initiation Fee: $175.00 (one-time fee)
Annual Dues: $400.00 total (billed $200.00 semi-annually, and prorated for new members)
Uniforms & Equipment: TBD (varies depending on what is purchased)
