Become a Member

Overview

You do not need to be a pilot to become a member!

Our membership consists of qualified patrol pilots and observers.  We fly patrol missions in a Cessna 182 based at Woodland Watts Airport (O41)

Our pilots must have at least a Private Pilot ASEL certificate and a minimum of 500 hours total time and a high-performance aircraft endorsement. Non-pilot members (or pilots who don’t yet meet the minimum requirements) are welcome as observers.

Meetings

Persons interested in joining the YCSAS must attend at least three (3) meetings prior to being approved for membership.

The YCSAS meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except in December) either virtually or in-person at the Yolo County Sheriff’ s Office Cameron Training Building.  Please check the Events page for upcoming meeting dates and times.

Process

Applicants must submit a completed application to our Executive Officer Keith Bakula along with a non-refundable $175 background check fee.

Your background check will consist of an interview with the Squadron’s Executive Board, and then, a Sherrif Office “LiveScan” fingerprinting appointment.

Once the results are received, you will be notified if you have been accepted or not.  Once accepted, you will be given information regarding uniform purchase, getting an ID card, and setting up a patrol ride-along with a deputy.  After everything has been completed, you will be sworn in as a member of the YCSAS!

Costs

* The application and background fee is non-refundable.
** Dues are billed semi-annually ($200.00 every 6-months) and prorated for new members.
*** Total cost varies depending on what items a new member purchases.
